The following is typically performed in sequence to score a Match:

1.Optionally configure WinMSS default values and Internet settings.  This step is not necessary but it makes data entry easier and enables emailing features.  From the WinMSS main window, click on the "Settings" toolbar button or select "Settings" menu item under the "Tools" main menu caption, and configure the various settings found in the WinMSS Settings window according to your needs.

2.Define your IPSC Membership.  Hopefully, this task will be as simple as obtaining your IPSC Regional (or Sectional), WinMSS Membership database and importing it into your copy of WinMSS, otherwise, you will have to enter your IPSC Membership manually.  To import your IPSC Regional (or Sectional), WinMSS Membership database, simply select "Membership" from the WinMSS main menu, followed by "Import", and then selecting "WinMSS Membership Database...".  An "Open" dialog will appear and you simply enter the file name of your IPSC Membership Database there and click on the "OK" button.  Your IPSC Membership can also be entered manually -- from the main window, either click on the "Members" toolbar button or select the "Administration..." menu item under the "Members" main menu caption -- proceed to enter your membership into the Membership Administration window.

TIP: You may customize the WinMSS Membership database, providing you do not change the structures of the "tblMember" and "tblMemberClassify" tables within it.

3.Define your IPSC Match.  You define your IPSC Match through the WinMSS Match Administration window which is accessed from the main window by clicking on the "Matches" toolbar button or by  navigating through the main menu ("Competition" > "Match" > "Administration"...).  The "Match Administration" window will allow you to enter your Match details, including your: Stages; Competitors; Teams; and, Tags.

4.Score your Match.  There are several ways to access the WinMSS Scoring feature, but the most common method is to click on the "Scoring" toolbar button.

5.Classify your Competitors.  There are two ways to classify your competitors: a) On-line via an Internet connection.  b) Off-line via the membership database.  Either way, you access this feature the same way, by making the following navigation through the WinMSS main menu system: "Competition" > "Match" > "Update Classifications...".

TIP: If you use the "Off-line" way, update your membership ICS classifications via an Internet connection just prior to the match (or during the Match, when you have an Internet connection available to you).  You do this by selecting the "Update Classifications..." menu item under the "Membership" main menu.

6.Report your Match Results.  There are several ways to access the WinMSS Match Reporting feature.  The most common way being to click on the "Reporting" toolbar button in the WinMSS main window.  For IPSC Level III and higher Matches, it is recommended that you send your Match Results to IPSC Headquarters for President's Medals (and IROA point) consideration, as well as an update to ICS (the International Classification System).

Matches that are too large to score on a single computer, but small enough that a networked operation is too much effort, may be scored by separating and scoring Match divisions on different computers.  You simply setup the match on a master computer and export/backup it up onto a floppy diskette.  Then you import/restore that match on each (slave) computer that you want to use.
